London > Brighton Recce Trip

By admin on May 3, 2009

Yesterday I took the trip from my home in Chessington to Brighton, taking a diversion past The Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton. The purpose of the trip was of course to scout out, what turned out to be, a fantastic route, navigating some tough hills and some even better downhills.

All in all the journey was 52.7 miles. Now I’m not sure if my bike spedometer is slightly out or not, but it took me a few hours. I was pootling along from time to time, stopping to take pictures, stopping for lunch and generally taking in the whole route so as not to get lost.

I also ‘tweeted’ the whole route which can be found at www.twitter.com/Lynchie30. Pictures have been uploaded to Facebook and I will add them too here very soon.

Overall its not a bad route. The weather was lovely and to be honest it was everything that I expected it to be. There was a tough hill just after the start, then a lot of downhill, another big climb then a lot of flatness for a while. The hardest parts were the leg up Turners Hill (around half way where I stopped for lunch) and the final climb over Ditchling Beacon (where I stopped for an ice cream). Ditchling was a serious climb and not anything to be laughed at. From there on in however it was pretty much a nice little roll along and downhill right into Brighton. Good times.

The route will be posted up very soon! Keep coming back to find out more.
